Set up (2 minutes)

Get an API key. Insay recommends Anthropic Claude (Haiku 4.5), with Google Gemini as a backup. DeepSeek and OpenAI keys work too.
Open Insay's settings (right-click the toolbar icon, Options), paste the key under the provider, press Test. Use the arrows to change which provider Insay tries first.
Optional: write a sentence about how you write in About me.

Use it

Click into a reply box on Gmail, X, Reddit or LinkedIn (a comment, a reply, or a message). A small round Insay button appears in its corner.
Tap it (or press Alt+I, Option+I on Mac). Insay picks the best things to do for this thread (Answer, Push back, Ask...) and starts drafting right away. Want to say something specific? Type your take in "What do you want to say?" and press Enter.
Switch between drafts with the arrows or the chips, or pick another action under +. Then Again, Shorter, Longer, or type a change in "Refine this", like "make it more direct".
Press Insert (or Enter). Then post it yourself. Insay never posts for you.

Already typed something? Insay offers Polish, Tighten, Finish thought, Make clearer and Make more natural instead of starting over.

What is an API key?

An API key is a password-like code from an AI company (Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, DeepSeek) that lets an app use their models on your account. With the BYOK plan, Insay uses your key to write drafts, straight from your browser to that company. They bill you for what you use; Insay does not include any AI usage in BYOK.

Create one in your provider's dashboard, for example Anthropic or Google AI Studio, and add a payment method or credits there.
Paste it in Insay's settings and press Test. It is stored only in this browser, never sent to Insay.

Troubleshooting

"No API key yet": add one in settings.
"Your API key was rejected": the key is wrong or revoked; create a new one.
"Couldn't read this thread": the site changed its layout. Type an instruction instead; we'll ship a fix without an update.
No button? Check the site is switched on in settings, then reload the tab.
"Insay was updated": reload the tab.
