Short answer

Build a waitlist on BetaList before launch. On launch day, go to Product Hunt, Show HN and one or two subreddits that match your audience. Afterwards, list on AlternativeTo, SaaSHub and the review directories, which keep sending search traffic long after the launch spike is gone.

How to use this list

A launch is a sequence, not a day

Submitting everywhere at once spreads attention thin. Work through the categories in order and each stage feeds the next.

  1. 01

    Before launch

Collect a waitlist and recruit testers while the product is still rough.

  2. 02

    Launch week

Pick two or three boards whose audience matches your buyer, and be present to answer every comment.

  3. 03

    First month

Write up what you built and why. Add listings that keep working without a launch day.

  4. 04

    Ongoing

Show up where your category already browses: niche directories, stores and marketplaces.

The directory

Every site, by category

Filter by category or search for your niche. Sites marked “check activity first” are smaller or quieter, so look at their recent launches before you submit.

85 sites across 11 categories

Launch platforms

18 sites

Daily and weekly launch boards. Best for concentrated launch-day attention and early adopters.

Tech and founder communities

9 sites

Discussion-first audiences. Share the story and ask for feedback rather than posting an ad.

Startup directories

10 sites

Profile-style listings for new companies. Low effort, long tail discovery.

Software and review directories

9 sites

Where buyers compare tools. Evergreen, search-driven traffic with real purchase intent.

AI tool directories

11 sites

Catalogues of AI products. Worth a listing if AI is central to what your product does.

App and extension stores

10 sites

Ecosystem stores. If your product plugs into a platform, its store is a distribution channel in itself.

FAQ

Launching a product: common questions

What is the best site to launch a product?

For most software products, Product Hunt gives the most launch-day reach, Hacker News (Show HN) reaches the most technical audience, and Indie Hackers and r/SideProject suit bootstrapped founders. There is no single best site: pick the two or three whose audience matches your buyer, and treat the rest as supporting listings.

How many launch sites should I submit my product to?

Fewer than you think, done properly. A focused launch on three to five platforms where you can reply to every comment usually beats a hundred unattended listings. Add the evergreen directories (AlternativeTo, SaaSHub, review sites) afterwards, since they do not depend on a launch day.

Do launch directories help SEO?

Some, modestly. Many listings are nofollow, so the direct ranking value is limited. The real benefit is referral traffic, brand mentions, and being found by people searching a directory for alternatives. Directories that rank in search for "alternatives to" queries are the ones worth keeping up to date.

Should I launch before or after my product is finished?

Collect interest before it is finished, launch publicly once someone can sign up and get value on the same day. Beta directories like BetaList and BetaPage exist for the first stage; launch boards like Product Hunt reward the second.

Are paid launch listings worth it?

Only when the audience fits. Several launch boards sell skip-the-queue or featured slots, and marketplaces like AppSumo trade margin for early revenue. Judge each one on whether its visitors look like your buyers, not on the size of the site.

Why are some sites marked "check activity"?

Smaller launch sites appear and go quiet regularly. The flagged ones were harder to confirm as active when this list was last reviewed, so look at their recent launches before spending time on a submission.
